Default Talking-In-Character Guide

There are three basic rules for Talking in Character: Respect, Consent, and Continuity.

RESPECT - Respect your character and the characters of the other players.

CONSENT - In freeform games, only you get to decide what happens to your character. If another player's character throws a punch at your character, you decide if their punch hits your character or misses.

Limited Consent means that non-aggressive touching is allowed, like shaking hands. Can be expanded to less-than-lethal contact.

Table Consent means that the results of all actions are decided by a random number rolled on a table.

Dictating the actions of another player's character is called "god-modding" and is forbidden. "Untouchable" characters who never get hit, even if its nuclear hand grenades going off in their underwear are typically called "munchkins".

CONTINUITY - respecting the setting of the game. Most freeform rpgs are based on books and movies, so you don't post something that disrupts that setting. Like a muggle swooping in on a fighter jet and firing nuclear missiles at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft - one of these things does not belong.

Each game may have additional rules for character creation and setting.

Players that break these rules will be thrown out of the game.
