The question is not so much what Bannon is, but what he will be, since he could be the one who actually sets Trump policies, or merely the one who mouths them to backers Trump just wants to give lip service to. As the more vague half of a "partnership", he could be nothing beyond a press release, or a whole lot more unfortunately. Right now he is not a reason to give in to despair. [Of course, he is also not a reason to put off reading "Handgun? or Poison?, a User Guide" either.]

Jeremy Scahill discusses the reasons to toast The Donald's health and long life.

Some positions of Mike Pence.

No whistleblower protections for federal employees
No oversight of interrogations (enhanced or otherwise)
Stop and Frisk is good
Increase militarization of the drug war -- including use of the actual military
Ban on refugees

And the list goes on...

Hmmmm....if State goes to Giuliani and AG goes to Christie, does that mean the empty SCOTUS seat can go to Cruz? (Saw this suggested elsewhere, and I'm shamelessly stealing it to spread the nightmare fuel.)

Conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney joins Trump Transition Team as a National Security Adviser.

Link with info on Gaffney's conspiracy theories (including the ever popular Obama is a Muslim nonsense, but actually going downhill from there.)

The more I read about Gaffney, the more convinced I am this fellow might suffer from an actual mental illness. He believed Soviet agents blocked his promotions in the federal government. He was banned from CPAC for having views that were too weird. He believes top GOP and Democrats advisers (Including Huma Abedin and Grover Norquist) are *Muslim Brotherhood* sleeper agents. This guy has a rabid hate on for Islam, and his conviction the US government is infiltrated by Muslim agents is...frightening.

The Senate is only 52-48. The Republicans will win all ties due to VP, but there will still be hesitation to nominate Senators to the cabinet.

Back in 1960, Senator Johnson of Texas was elected VP, with everyone expecting another Democrat to get the seat. Instead a Republican by the name of John Tower won, and stayed in the senate for quite a few years.
Even a sure thing has some risks.

Oh God.

There is a slim needle of a migraine working its way into my brain.
