Arrow Inquisitives - Turn 16

Halflings at the Office

[Round 3]

14 - Wireburn

The warforged was surrounded by raptors. His bottleneck plan worked. Now all he had to do was shake things up and pop the cork! With three of his four arms used to wield his greatsword, Wireburn pivoted at the waist and swung with all his might. The blade bit deeply in the first clawfoot to his left, slicing cleanly through its chest. The halfling astride the raptor found itself falling with the carcass.

Sir Wireburn used the momentum of his swing to bring the blade across in a wide arc towards the one on his right that had clawed him. The greatsword caught the beast solidly in the side, cleaving partway through its body, stopping at its spine. Steam escaped from the warforged knight’s neck as he pushed a bit harder with the third arm like a piston; the blade slid through the beast’s spine and out the other side. The rider, like raptor he had been riding, was also cleaved in two...
Spoiler!

13 - June

The Dragon Within roared at the beasts threatening her beloved, and June felt the fire well up inside of her. She stepped across to get a better angle and gestured at the two nearest threats to Mardu. Two rays of scorching fire lanced out and struck their targets.

One blast hit the beast to Mardu’s left, and the second went over his shoulder to hit the one bearing down upon the half-orc. Both had devastating effect as they tore through both raptors. The beasts were dead before they hit the flagstones...
Spoiler!

12 - Raena and Altus

The paladin moved Raena to the couch as she shuddered in pain. She was terribly pale and her breathing was already shallow. The arrow had entered through her side and looked like it went straight through her heart. Altus murmured a prayer to Dol Arrah as he removed the arrow swiftly and immediately willed her to heal, laying his hand over the wound. Raena’s breathing steadied a bit, and the paladin held her gently, his shield strategically placed between the priestess and the door.
Spoiler!

12 - Hawksley

The young psychic, well aware of the clawfoot and rider nearly on top of him, cleared his mind and acted defensively. Hawksley stretched his senses and forced his will upon the attacking raptors and their halfling riders once again.
Spoiler!

Much to his relief, most of them drifted off to slumber...

11 - The Hafling Horde...

Only two halflings remained awake after the psychic attack. Each raised their bows and sighted their targets. One took aim at the man leaning over the balustrade, separated from the rest of the group. The arrow took Han in the ribs, sinking to the fletchings. The changeling convulsed in pain as the arrow slid between his ribs and lodged in his right lung.
Spoiler!

The other halfling warrior took aim at the elf now riding the glidewing. The arrow found Durion’s leg...
Spoiler!

10 - Durion

Despite the arrow in his leg, Durion urged his mount to gain altitude as though he had been riding glidewings for decades. Looking over to the action on the ground with his keen insight into military strategy and tactics, he immediately discerned the proper course of action.

With the sniper having revealed himself to the entire party through his actions, and the construct having blocked the ground forces with its own body, he did what every military man had been trained to do against snipers since the invention of the tactic.

You see, he said to himself as though addressing a class of apprentices, the main advantage snipers have are surprise and distance. Once they have revealed themselves, they have removed their first advantage. It is up to us to counter the sniper's secondary advantage by taking the fight to him.

With the image of him standing in front of an illusion, diagramming the fight and explaining the correct and incorrect maneuvers to a room full of fresh faced children, firmly in mind, he wheeled the glidewing into a flight path that would take him close enough to the sniper to leap to the attack.

When the multi colored vectors in his minds eye merged, he leapt, determined that the sniper's last sight would see would be his own grim face.
Spoiler!

The Magus leapt from the glidewing, aiming at the open window where the sniper was hiding. Durion flew through the window without so much as ruffling the drapes, hit the floor rolling off his right shoulder, and ended up on one knee with his sword at full extension, skewering the shocked assassin. With his free hand, he cast Colour Spray at his enemy, but the would-be assassin seemed to resist the power of the scintillating colours...

9 - Han

Han, gasping for breath with an arrow in his side, decided the halfling that shot him was too far away, but the glidewing rider was ripe for the picking still. The changeling drew another dagger and threw it at the helpless halfling on the level below. This time, the dagger struck.
Spoiler!

8 - Anselm
Not interested in letting up on the sniper, especially if it could potentially be this “M” character, Anselm sent another volley of magic missiles at this despicable character.
Spoiler!

Four magic missiles flew around Durion in the small room and struck the sniper in the chest. The archer was thrown back off the elven thinblade as he slipped to the floor in a burned and bloody heap. His chest rattled with his dying breath...

6 - Mardu / Deneith Guards

Mardu saw the two halflings that were still attacking. He hefted his axe and let fly. The halfling was nearly split in two as his corpse pitched backwards off the sleeping mount.
Spoiler!

The Deneith archer took aim at the last remaining halfling that had not succumber to (what he assumed was a magical) slumber. Unfortunately, his bowstring snapped before he could launch his arrow!
Spoiler!

5 - Wolf

The wolf saw what happened to Raena and wasn’t able to prevent it. If an animal could show horror and regret upon its face, this one certainly could. It dashed off into the closet where the crossbow had been stored. He’d seen something in there that might help. His nose led him to the satchel in the back of the crowded closet; the smell of ointments and herbs was hard to miss. It scooped the leather bag up and headed downstairs, skidding to a halt at Raena’s side.

Altus looked at the wolf, then the satchel, then the wolf again. Without knowing why or how, the paladin accepted that the wolf had brought them something necessary.

“Anyone know anything about stopping poisons?” he bellowed to the inquisitives outside.

[Round 4]

[Rh: There is currently only one halfling (number 8 on the map) left awake. All the other halflings and all of the raptors are either asleep or dead at this point.]

14 - Wireburn

13 - June

12 - Raena and Altus

12 - Hawksley

Upon hearing Altus’ cry, Hawksley turned and sprinted flat out towards him, reaching into his pockets for his alchemical supplies.

11 - The last halfling standing...

10 - Durion

9 - Han

8 - Anselm

Hearing Altus, Anselm cursed his luck. He hadn’t prepared a slow poison or a cure poison potion. He would have to remedy that in the coming days. In the meantime, he helplessly looked on.

[OOC: I assume that the halfling will be handled by the time my turn comes around. If needed, I’ll busy myself by tying up the sleeping halflings]

6 - Mardu / Deneith Guards

5 - Wolf
