To some extent, but not entirely. Like I said, autofailing on a one (particularly critically fumbling) doesn't strike me as sensible for a skill check. If I have a +20 stealth check and the guard has a -1 perception check, I don't see that he should be able to see me even if I roll a 1 and he rolls a 20. Like I said, combat is different for me, but for skills it seems off. Also, with exceptionally high skill levels, you either succeed or fail spectacularly -- you would only fail on a critical fumble. That strikes me as a bit weird too.

I have had the same conversation with my old gaming groups about skilled craftsmen fumbling. We ended up agreeing that if someone is under pressure, there's a risk of failure in whatever you're attempting, even if you're an expert. For us, it was a matter of having as much fun with the failures as we did with the successes (or making fun of the failures, as the case often was )...

However, we seem to be leaning towards not using Auto Fail/Success for Skill checks for the here and now. Does anyone else want to weigh in before we finalise the subject?
