Gronk was taken aback by this. Being a a solitary creature he had had few friends on his lifetime. He bent down to look the elf in the eye and while not a good judge of character he saw no deception in the elf's face.

Gronk's hand completely engulfed Selsdrin's. "Friend." was all he said.

Selsdrin gripped the huge forearm in return and retrieved his own back without much damage.

He pointed at a nearby tavern and held up a gold coin. "Friend Gronk, are you thirsty?"

A short, fat man steps up onto a foot stool in the center of the area. He coughs, clears his throat, and pulls a silver bell out of his pouch. He unrolls a scroll, and reads from it for a few moments.

He rings the bell several times to attract attention.

"Hear ye! Hear ye!"

Ringing the bell several more times, he attracts the attention of most of the varied entertainers in the square.

"Hear ye! Hear ye! The Lord Starhawk, prince of the realm of Critfumblia requests the attention of all adventurers and mercenaries. Come one, come all! Those deemed worthy may be enlisted in His Majesty's service for the good of all! Come one, come all!"

Selsdrin turned to Gronk. "Little fat man says that Lord Starhawk wants to hire us."

He walked up to the herald. "Where will he make the selections?"

"Please, noble sir. Stand in line behind me. Forms are available."

He looks at Gronk, staring at the width of his shoulders, and up.

"Please, noble sir. You and your friend, the mummer priest. Step to the front of the line."

It was also good for drawing blood for The Contracts.

Gronk had heard of paperwork before and the horrors it brought with it. Specifically "red tape".

Gronk didn't know why a crimson ribbon was thought to be such a formidable opponent but still it was best to keep his guard up.

Selsdrin, they let you sign Gronk's paperwork.

"It's not like we're hiring for scribes," said one of the sergeants, as he looked the half-ogre up and down. "He's enormous!"

This led to a few contests of strength in the yard while adventurers arrived and signed up.

After Gronk puts a man's arm through the table (literally) in arm wrestling, they carry the unconscious man away.

"So, mummer priest," said one of the soldiers, a dwarf in banded mail. "I'm afraid we can't hire anyone face unseen. If your vows do not permit your face to be seen, nobody will force ye to remove it. But if you're applying for the job, we have to see what ye look like."

Selsdrin slowly unwrapped the hood and bandages covering his face. A few of the men took a step back.

"Aye," said the dwarf. "I thought so. You seemed particularly uncomfortable when the sun was high a couple of hours ago. We haven't seen one of your kin around here in many years. Fear not, though. While ye might not be welcomed in some parts of the city, all races serve in Lord Starhawk's service and are welcomed if they keep the law."
